Book Formatting & Design Process

To begin the formatting process, you will be provided with a Design Information Form to complete. This form allows you to specify any formatting preferences you may already have, such as font styles, font sizes, page layout preferences, and other design elements. If you are unsure of these details, our designer will select the most suitable options for your manuscript based on industry standards and the style of your book. The initial stage involves developing and setting up a custom template within our design software. This process takes time, as the template must be carefully structured to suit your manuscript. Once the template has been created, you will receive a sample PDF proof showing a portion of your book layout.

Revisions & Transparency

The first PDF proof is your opportunity to review the design and provide feedback. Any requests regarding font styles, font sizes, spacing, margins, headings, or other layout adjustments should be added directly to the PDF proof. After receiving your comments, we will make the requested changes and provide you with a revised PDF proof for approval.

Once the design template has been approved, additional sections of your manuscript, or the complete formatted file, will be provided for review. These pages will be formatted according to the design choices and feedback you have previously approved.

An instruction sheet will be emailed to you explaining how to add comments and feedback to your PDF proofs. There is no need to sign up for an Adobe account or purchase any software to access this feature. We want you to be completely satisfied with the layout. Hence, why sections are provided to you to provide your feedback on.

Final Approval and Printing

Once the entire document has been reviewed and approved, a print-ready production file will be prepared for the printing process.

Printed Proof Copies and Further Changes

If you have chosen to receive a printed proof copy for final review and would like changes made after examining the book, please contact your publishing consultant, who will be happy to assist you. Minor corrections, such as a small number of typographical errors, may be completed at no additional charge. However, more extensive revisions, design alterations, or substantial edits will incur a fee to cover the time required to complete the work.

Important Book Formatting Disclaimer

If you choose to proceed with formatting methods against our professional advice, Angel Key Publications will not be responsible for any resulting issues, including printing or marketplace complications. In such cases, we may also choose not to be credited as the designer or publisher.

Formatting Advice for Authors

Page Count Guidelines

To meet reader expectations, your word count should align closely with your chosen book size: A4: approx. 500 words per page A5: approx. 200 words per page A6: approx. 100 words per page It is considered poor practice to artificially inflate page counts by adding excessive blank spaces or unnecessary pages. Similarly, overly large margins beyond printing requirements reduce content value and negatively impact the reader experience.

Why This Matters

Imagine a reader purchasing a 100‑page book, only to discover the content could have been delivered in far fewer pages. This often leads to disappointment and damages the author's credibility. Professional formatting ensures your book delivers value, integrity, and reader satisfaction—while meeting publishing standards.
