What paper stock is suitable for your book?
Gloss: Gloss is the kind of paper that you may find in magazines. It is also cost-efficient, with less bulk and opacity than regular matte paper. Take advantage of full colour without the weight using Gloss paper.
Satin/Silk: Lower in gloss with the looks. Satin or silk paper has a smooth surface. Slightly heavier than gloss paper. Great paper stock for photo books.
Matte: With little sheen, matte paper is non-glossy and is more opaque with a greater bulk. Heavy paper use is commonly used in printing photo books. It can be thick and heavy so watch the postage costs.
Bond: Commonly used for paperback books. Used for books with lots of text and limited or no images. You would not use this paper stock for a book with colour images as the colour seeps into the paper and does not look as good as the other paper stocks.
Spending a few moments to prepare your files before sending them to your printer will give you the best outcome. We take pride in being able to work with just about any form of digital artwork. However, applying a few simple principles when setting up your files will help simplify the process of preparing and, ultimately, delivering your job in good time.

Choosing a book publisher rather than a book printer can easily prevent many problems.
We offer a Print on Demand Service – short-run book printing for writers that don’t necessarily want to print hundreds of books at a time via our parent company.
Book printing by POD is a way to get your book out there. The quality is not super, naturally, as you will get what you pay for.
Authors have thus been interested in what has been promoted as ‘print-on-demand’ or POD – printing a single copy or an ultra-short-run (for example, one to twenty copies).
Much of the technology is not new. Independent publishers and authors have been taking camera-ready copy and disks to local and offset book printers for at least two decades.
In 2008 publishing industry specialist R.R. Bowker reported that US output of “print-on-demand, short-run and unclassified titles” rose from 21,000 in 2006 to 134,000 in 2007.
It is unclear whether that increase represents a major trend or is instead attributable to changes in data collection mechanisms.
(A perspective is provided by Bowker’s report that US “production of traditional books” increased by 1% from 2006, with 276,649 new titles and editions.)

There is a wide range of options for printing your books; these include laminated softback, colour hardback with a dust jacket and material covers. Self-publishing and low volume book printing are an ideal combination.
There is no need for self-publishing authors to print large quantities of books to bring the cost of the books down. It is now possible for self-publishing authors to produce their books in low volumes, allowing them to see if the market takes to the author’s book.
Besides printing books for self-publishing authors, our experienced team also offers high-quality typesetting services, taking your manuscript into a professional format before printing.
Our graphic design team can create high impact book cover designs from your ideas. Our graphic design team can generate any marketing material you require to promote your work further.
Self-publishing and book printing solutions. Books, eBooks, paperback books, hardcover books, children’s books and magazines. Never overpay for book printing services again.
Highest quality, lowest costs book printing – hardcover or softcover book printing is available. Paperback book sizes vary slightly, depending on what printer is utilised. It is best to be realistic about how many books you will sell and how much marketing and promotion you will do. In contrast, a book printer is in charge of using technology and ink to take your words and putting them onto paper to create a book.
New forms of printing and publishing, such as print on demand, mean that these roles’ division has become blurred. If you are publishing and printing your own book, try to get hold of a Pantone swatch book if you want colours to match more precisely.
The most cost-effective self-published book uses only one colour text in the book printing. Adding colour to your writing will kill the unit cost of your book unless you print thousands of copies.
Printing costs are made of two items: setup and run. The installation on an offset printing press is high compared to a digital printing press, but the running rate is low.
A book printing quote with Angel Key Publications gives you peace of mind. We guarantee our book printing services!
Digital printing is a cost-effective way to print small print runs of books.
A digital printing press can take the digital files from your computer and go right to print. While it is a digital press printer, it uses ink and not toner in manufacturing books.
It’s about quality, quantity, and price, and POD may not be the most cost-effective way to print your book in some cases. Talk to us at Angel Key Publications to find out the best option for your genre.
Most of the time, using traditional book printing services are your best bet. Don’t be taken in by printing “POD” and all the hype that surrounds it. It’s about quality, quantity, and price, and POD may be the most cost-effective way to print your book if you want to get your book out there. But quality is not as good in POD as a professional press printed book.
There’s another advantage to digital printing: You can use it for very short print runs. If you want professional-looking galleys to send to reviewers, you can print them digitally quickly and easily.
Even if you don’t print your entire book digitally, your galleys will look better and more professional if you print them by offset printing. Book printing is one of your most essential expenses. You don’t want to send out anything to reviewers that might take away from the strength of your book itself.
Book printing publishing can be a challenge when doing it for the first time. We have high-speed broadband data lines for the secure transmission of your digital files via the Internet. Or, if you prefer, you can send us your electronic file by mail.
For top-quality book printing services, short-run book printing, book printing prices, cheap book printing, choose book printing and binding that is affordable and of top quality. Let us choose the book print type that is suitable for your book.

Include a PDF file if possible
Today’s print workflow systems are dependent on Acrobat PDF files. There’s a fair chance that we will convert your native document into PDF format for printing. You can speed up the pre-press process by supplying a print-ready PDF file. If your pdf files meet our requirements, we will use your supplied PDF files rather than the native files.
PDF’s should be made to the ‘High Quality’, ‘Press Quality’ or especially ‘PDF/X-1a 2001′ standard, and include bleeds and crops. Color Management options should be set to ‘Color Unchanged’, as this will preserve the document as you created it. We’ll apply the necessary colour management options as part of the print process.
Even if your PDF is not to print standard, it will make a great visual reference for the integrity of the native files. Check that the included PDF looks correct before sending it to Angel Key Publications – if there are any problems with your file, they’ll show up on the PDF.
It’s also a good idea to set up your Acrobat Pro or Reader (depending on which version you have – we recommend v8 for both) to always display using ‘Overprint Preview.’ Some transparency features like those within InDesign, such as drop shadows, do not display correctly in Acrobat unless this is turned on.
Adobe Acrobat Distiller is the best method of creating PDF’s if your design application can not do it natively. If you don’t have Distiller, a free PDF converter is available from http://www.pdf995.com – it works like a physical printer; however, it outputs to a PDF file that you can use.
Supply the resource files if we are compiling or formatting your document
Supply all linked images (e.g., placed TIFF’s, PSD’s, EPS’s, etc.) fonts and final laser proofs. Many modern design applications have a ‘Collect for Output’ function, which can automate this process for you. In most cases, this is sufficient. However, there are cases where these functions do not entirely collect every required file. We recommend that you follow up a ‘collect’ with this checklist before sending in your data.
- Check the links list of your document to ensure that all the images are linked. Most design applications have a ‘Links’ palette or ‘Usage’ window, which list all the placed files in the design file. Ensure that you have included all the listed files. Files that are tagged ‘PB’ in the list can be safely ignored. They have been placed on the pasteboard of the document and are not required for output.
- Check EPS files for nested images. Some EPS files require additional linked images, which usually do not show up in the Links palette. If any of your placed EPS have nested linked images, be sure to include them. This is mainly an issue for older EPS files – most EPS’s created with current software will embed the nested images in the file.
- Check the font list of your document, ensuring that all fonts are included. Most design applications have a ‘Find Fonts’ or ‘Usage’ window which lists all the used fonts in the design file.
- Ensure that you’ve included all the listed fonts.
- The Collect’ functions are well known for missing non-roman font styles, e.g., bold, italic, bold-italic, and only copying the roman font file. These missing styles will need to be copied manually from your system font folder.
- Check that all required files for the type of font are present. Depending on your computer operating system and the type of fonts used, an individual font may consist of one or several files – all of which need to be provided. The document’s application font list will usually display the type of font used for any specific font. Use the table below to identify the font type and how many files will be needed for it.
Items that reach the trim edge need to be extended a minimum of 3 mm past the trim or page edge into the document’s pasteboard area. This additional image area is known as ‘bleed’.
It’s essential as it facilitates a clean trim from the guillotine. While most paper guillotines are fairly accurate today, there are a few physical factors about paper that can mean the trim’s actual position can vary slightly. Bleed allows for this variance to occur and to avoid the end trimmed product having white edges showing.
Most modern design applications allow for bleed to be specified in the ‘Document Setup’ or ‘Page Setup’ windows. It can also be specified in the ‘Print’ or ‘Export’ dialogue boxes.
Consumer software like the Microsoft Office series does not have the capability of specifying bleed. In these applications, it is best to set a page size that is 6 mm larger in both directions (e.g., an A4 page plus bleed would measure 216 x 303 mm). It is essential to note the actual trim line is 3 mm inside from each edge. Any typing or logos which should not be cut through need to be kept well within this area.
Bleed is not required when the print image does not reach the trim edge.
Imposition for book printing
We use specialised imposition software to layout print jobs for the most economical use of the paper. All we require is for your artwork to be supplied in 1-up form.
We prefer that the file’s page size match the final trim size, or in the case of Microsoft Office, the trim size plus bleed if required. If your artwork is created on a larger page size than the final trim size, all art must be centred within the more extensive page with crop marks added 3 mm out from the trim edges.
For professional book printing, publishing and printing ranging in all types of books, call us today!
Documents that meet these requirements can usually be imposed. If your artwork is not quite centred on the document page, it will require some adjustments to make it suitable for the book printing process. Extra processing time and cost s may be involved.
